Swindon Dolphins open meet

 

Swindon Dolphins held a level 3 open meet, on 19th & 20th November at The Link Centre, Swindon. Chippenham ASC had a team of 13 swimmers attend this busy open meet. CASC secured 21 medals (9 gold, 5 silver and 7 bronze) from 56 swims. Also many County Qualifying Times were achieved.

Calne Alpha Open Meet

 

Calne Alpha held an open meet at Calne leisure centre on 5th & 6th November 2016. It was a very busy open meet with many Wiltshire clubs attending. Tigersharks, Swindon Dolphins and Calne all had a large team of swimmers. Chippenham ASC also had a large team of 17 swimmers attend, ranging in age from 10 years to 26 years.  They swam a total of 103 races and between them they secured 29 medals – 12 gold, 9 silver and 8 bronze.  Many County Qualifying Times and PB's were secured.

Marlborough Penguins open meet

 

 

 

Marlborough Penguins held an open meet on 29th & 30th October, at Marlborough College. This was Marlborough Penguins first ever open meet.  Chippenham ASC only had a small team of 6 swimmers attend and it was a first open meet for Peter Weston-Burt. The Chippenham swimmers competed in a total of 32 swims and secured 13 medals (7 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze).

ASA National County Team Championship 

 

Chippenham ASC had 3 swimmers invited to represent Wiltshire at the ASA National County Team Championships, which took place at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield on the 23rd October 2016. It was an exciting day with the 50m pool being divided into two so that division one and two could compete on the same day. Wiltshire competed in Division 2 and the Chippenham swimmers chosen were Ella Parker (13), Katharine Sheppard (16) and Harrison Jones (17).

 

Ella Parker swam the 100m backstroke in the 12/13 age group and the 50m backstroke in the 12/13 team medley relay. 

Katharine Sheppard swam the 50m butterfly in the 16/17 team medley relay.

Harrison Jones swam the 100m backstroke in the 16/17 age group and the 50m backstroke in the 16/17 team medley relay.

 

All three swimmers put in great swims with Ella securing a PB in the 100m backstroke of 1:13.50 and Katharine securing a PB in the 50m butterfly of 32.06. 

 

Wiltshire finished 13th in division two. Chippenham ASC looks forward to supporting the County Team again next year.


 

Syncronised Swiming - Regional Championships - GOLD

 

Congratulation to the Chippenham Synchronised Swimming Team who competed at the South West Regional Championships  in Plymouth.

Chippenham Syncronised Swimming Won GOLD in the 12 and unders age group and will now be going on to the national competitions on the 2/3/4th of Decemeber

This year 7 swimmers have qualified fro the NAG Championships. This is the most swimmers we have ever had qualifed for the figure section in one championship.

Tigersharks Open Meet
 

Chippenham ASC had a small team of 9 swimmers attend the Tigersharks open meet on 1st & 2nd October 2016 held at the link centre, Swindon.

 
It was a quiet open meet and a first open meet for Philippa Jones. The team swam a total of 33 swims and won a total 23 medals – 12 gold, 8 silver and 3 bronze. Many County Qualifying times were achieved.

James Edwards has swam brilliantly and taken 3 medals:

Swindon Dolphins Open Meet
 
Swindon Dolphins held their end of season open meet at The Link Centre, Swindon on 30th and 31st of July.

This was a diverse meet with teams from outside the region (Birmingham, Leicester, Hatfield, Enfield, Stratford, Berkshire, Bournemouth, St Ives, Hackney and South Dorset) in addition to the usual local clubs participating.  Chippenham ASC had a small team of 9 swimmers attend and they swam a total of 45 events over the 2 days.  It was a successful weekend with a total of 24 medals won by the team - 13 gold, 7 silver and 4 bronze. Also 28 swims were PB's.

Tigersharks Non National Qualifier open meet

Chippenham ASC had 11 swimmers at the Tigersharks Non National Qualifier open meet on 23rd and 24th July at The Link Centre, Swindon. This was a fairly quiet open meet, the swimmers swam a total of 46 races and in over half of these they won medals! The swimmers won 25 medals (12 gold, 8 silver and 5 bronze).

 

Team Managers were Gary Brown, Gary Barnett, Nicky Butcher and Lyn Cairns.

Officials were Scott Garrett, Helen Sheppard and Darren Hall (who kindly attended even though neither Amy nor Jason were swimming).

Wiltshire County Sprint Day

Chippenham had a large team of 32 swimmers who qualified and swam at the Wiltshire County Sprint Day on Sunday 10th July at Milton Road, Swindon.

It was an amazingly successful day with Chippenham bringing home a total of 44 medals (13 golds, 11 silver and 10 bronze), over the different age groups.
Chippenham had swimmers who placed in the junior championship (aged 15 and under). They won a total of 10 medals (3 gold - Junior champions, 1 silver, 2 bronze, 2 fourth places, 1 fifth place and 1 sixth place).
For the overall Championship, the fastest 5 competitors (regardless of age) swam again for a chance to win the Championship in that stroke. Chippenham were strongly represented in the 8 championship races. The swimmers were rewarded with 1 gold medal and championship title, 4 silver medals, 3 bronze medals, 2 fourth places and 5 fifth places.
 
A very rewarding day, well done to all swimmers.
 

Chippenham had a strong team of 14 swimmers who qualified to enter the ASA South West Region Fast 5 Competition on Sunday 3rd July at GL1 Leisure Centre, Gloucester.  The swimmers were;

Niamh Irwin, Katie Butcher, Rachel Wrench, Amy Gibbons, Ella Parker, Megan Wright, Michaela Sheppard, Tegan Cairns, Amy Hall, Luke Brown, Jamie Edwards, Harrison Jones, James Tucker and Matt Hare.
 
The swimmers swam 5 races which were 50m in each of the four strokes and 100IM. Fina points are awarded for each swimmer in every race and the points are added together to give a total for each swimmer. Each age group then ranks the swimmers based on their final points.  Chippenham ASC had a number of top 10 swimmers in their age group;
 
James Tucker - 3rd overall in age group
Michaela Sheppard - 4th overall in age group
Amy Hall - 4th overall in age group
Matt Hare - 6th overall in age group
Luke Brown - 8th overall in age group
Ella Parker - 9th overall in age group
Tegan Cairns - 9th overall in age group

Also many PBs were swum, well done to all swimmers!

Salisbury Open Meet

 

Chippenham ASC had 4 swimmers attending the Salisbury open meet on Sunday 5th June at The Five Rivers Leisure Centre. They were;

Jack Chappell, Louis Nicholls, Amy Gibbons and Jamie Edwards.

They had a busy day swimming a total of 27 races, but were rewarded with 12 medals! 2 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze. They also achieved a total of 17 PBs.

Wiltshire ASA Masters Championships

 

Chippenham ASC had 7 swimmers enter round two of the Wiltshire ASA Masters Championships held at Trowbridge on Saturday 4th June.

 

They were;

Matt Hare, Peter Holden, Ben Holloway, Sally-Ann Mann, Matt Cruse, Jack Cook and Shaun Cairns.

 

Congratulations to them all on making this Wiltshire Masters Championship the most successful Masters Championships Chippenham has attended. Not only did Chippenham enter a record 22 events, but they brought home a record 15 medals, as well as setting/breaking 9 Club Masters Records.

Chippenham have now moved up to fourth in the Men’s Team scores with 58 points only 7 points behind Corsham in third. Our Women’s Team (just Sally) has moved into joint tenth place with 2 points. And our Combined Team Score is now 60 points placing us sixth in the county out of 13 teams.

 

The next Championship Block is Saturday 1st October in Salisbury which will consist of 100m IM, 50m freestyle, 25m backstroke, 25m butterfly, 50m breaststroke and hopefully a relay or two.

Trowbridge May Day open meet

Chippenham ASC had a small and young team of 6 attend the Trowbridge May Day open meet held on 2nd May at Clarendon Sports Centre, Trowbridge. They were;
Beth McFadzean, Jack Blackburn, Jack Chappell, Isabelle Chappell, Lillia Barnett and Bethany Barnett.

Swimming a massive 52 races, in one day, which were a mixture of 25m, 50m and 100m they managed to secure an amazing 38 medals (14 gold, 12 silver and 12 bronze). Over 70% of their swims were also PBs so a fantastic result all round.

Millfield and Taunton Deane open meet

Chippenham ASC had 2 swimmers who attended the Millfield and Taunton Deane open meet held at Millfield school on 22nd to 24th April. This was a long course (50m pool) Level 1 open meet and swimmers came from all over the south west hoping to gain national qualification.

The swimmers were Amy Gibbons and Michaela Sheppard. They swam a total of 7 races altogether some being PB's. This was their first experience of a Level 1 open meet and was a great experience that they could use to prepare themselves for their regional championship races next month.

Swindon Swim Squad low level 4 invitational development open meet

Chippenham ASC had 5 children competing in 26 races in the Swindon Swim Squad open meet held at the Link Centre, Swindon on Sunday 17th April.

The team - aged between 8 and 10 were;
Paige Lavelle, Alisha Birkett, Beth McFadzean, Holly Parker and James Wrench.

It was the first open meet for 2 of the swimmers and everyone swam well gaining lots of PB's. Each PB entitled the swimmer to a free lolly which kept them all happy! Also there were medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd and ribbons for 4th, 5th and 6th in each age group. We won a total of 4 Bronze medals, two 4th place ribbons, two 5th place ribbons and two 6th place ribbons.
Paige and James placed in the top six in their age group in every race, a great achievement.

Calne Alpha open meet.

It was another busy but successful weekend for Chippenham ASC at the Calne Alpha Open Meet on 9th and 10th April.

CASC had a large team of 25 swimmers competing in 101 swims over the weekend. There was a good showing of younger swimmers and at the other end of the scale the performance squad were out in force with 18 of them competing, this being their last chance to obtain Regional Qualifying Times.

An impressive 55 medals were won over the weekend! 23 gold, 17 silver and 15 bronze. Many PB's were obtained and they also managed to secure 9 Regional Consideration times and 2 Regional Entry times. These were;

George Claverley - 50m Freestyle - Regional Consideration Time.

Chippenham ASC had swimmers competing at the Tigersharks Spring Open Meet on 12th/13th March at the Link Centre, Swindon. It was a mixed team of younger swimmers together with performance swimmers trying to obtain Regional Qualifying Times. 

 

The swimmers had requested entry into 99 races but following a 60% oversubscription to the meet, some swimmers were unable to complete in some or all of the races they requested.  During the weekend Chippenham ASC had swimmers competing in 74 races (taking into account illness and withdrawals on the day).  

 

The swimmers managed an impressive medal haul of 7 gold, 8 silver and 10 bronze. 

 

Many PB's were achieved across the weekend and also an amazing 9 Regional Qualifying Times, 6 of which were either new or improved times. These were;

Chippenham ASC had 7 swimmers who entered Round 1 of the Wiltshire Masters Championships held on Saturday 20th February at the Link centre, Swindon.

They swam a total of 18 events and won an impressive 11 medals: 6 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze.

Matt Cruse - 100m Butterfly 1st in age group, 100m Freestyle 2nd in age group.
